Changes happens
After the news of the Coursera’s old platform shut down, i need to rethink nearly all my set of exams.
This spring the exams were Algorithm I and II (i’ve almost finished part I, i’ll review it soon but haven’t started the part II), Linear Algebra (using the brown’s mooc Codint the matrix), both probably deleted by Coursera, Databases and Calculus One (you can see the list better in the second set of exams post).
Part 1: Algorithm
The main problem of the shut down (now, at least) is the complete deletion of the Princeton Algorithm I and II. I need to find a substitute for both of them.
Udacity offers an introduction to algorithm, but it’s more focused on the graph theory. For the data structures, Udacity offers a course as well named techincal interiew, which reviews data structures. However, the course is not really long and a little bit easy imo, but it could be an interesting choice!
As an alternative, i can use the IITBombay course on Edx (the set of 3 exams, here ), the only con i can find is the need of a c++ background, which i don’t have (not that bad, however). Probably the best alternative out there. Also, i love the indian kind of english (yes, just a bit difficult to understand the first times), reminds me this!
Part 2: Linear Algebra
Find another Linear Algebra course was simpler. After enrolling on Coding the matrix, i’ve found another great mooc on linear algebra, named Linear Algebra – Foundations to Frontiers , done by University of Texas. May be, also better than the coding the matrix one!
Cons
Sadly, the switch has only one, big con. Both courses stars on Edx at the end of august, so, if i want an honor code, i need to wait, forcing me to delay then next fall of exams later on, and so becoming more and more late on my schedule. I really need to start studying more (cries again)
As usually, stay tuned for more exam reviews and updates π
